Women’s Golf Looks to Reclaim NEIGA Championship this Weekend

BOSTON – Suffolk women's golf aims to put an exclamation point on its 2024 fall season as it aims to reclaim the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA Championship this weekend. The eighth annual regional event at the Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Massachusetts tees off Saturday, Oct. 19 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 20.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk women's golf finished as the runner-up at the Northeast Women's Golf Conference (NGWC) Fall Invitational Saturday at the Mohawk River Country Club.

ABOUT THE NEIGA
The New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) is a non-profit organization, which was first organized in 1934 at the Oakley Country Club in Watertown, Massachusetts. NEIGA is believed to be the largest gathering of collective players from all levels of NCAA competing at the same location on a 36-hole layout. There are currently 46 New England colleges and universities as members of the NEIGA.

THE COURSE
Two championship golf courses at one location line in the Captains Golf Course. Together, the par-72 Port Course and the par-72 Starboard Course deliver 36 holes.   

THE COMPETITION
In addition to Suffolk, 11 other teams will be competing on the Cape in Babson, Keene State, Westfield State, Wellesley, Nichols, Husson, Bates, Hartford, Gordon, Southern Maine and Saint Joseph's (Maine).  

RAPID REWIND
A year ago, Suffolk finished in the middle of the nine-team field with a fifth-place performance with a two-day card of 673.

SUFFOLK AT NEIGAs

  • Suffolk has been featured in the NEIGA field since the inaugural women's regional championship in 2017. 
  • The Rams have claimed three NEIGA Championships: 2017, 2018 and 2021. 
  • Suffolk's best two-day score at NEIGAs came last season when it shot a 673 to finish fifth in the nine-team field.
  • Two Rams have earned individual medalist status. Aine Dillon became the first-ever in 2018 and Isabel Smith secured the honor in 2021. 
  • Eight Rams have combined for a dozen (12) All-NEIGA honors. 
  • Suffolk secured five All-NEIGA nods in 2018. The five in one year is a Rams record. 
  • Brooke Chapman is the most NEIGA decorated individual with three All-NEIGA accolades on her resume (2017, 2018, 2019).
  • Suffolk has not had an All-NEIGA honoree since 2021.  

ALL-NEIGA
The top six performers, including ties, will be awarded All-New England honors.  

RAMS RECOGNITION
Suffolk women's golf's Krisna Mahendran collected Northeast Women's Golf Conference (NWGC) Player of the Week for the third consecutive week after a pair of victories over the weekend.

SUFFOLK'S SCHEDULE
NEIGAs is Suffolk's final event of the fall portion of its 2024-25 schedule. The Rams will be back in action this Spring when they defend their Northeast Women's Golf Conference (NWGC) Championship.
