Suffolk University is an NCAA Division III institution located in Boston's downtown Beacon Hill area. 

Suffolk student-athletes are well-rounded, motivated and suited for success with the chance to compete, learn and enhance their classroom experience in one of the nation's best sports towns, while still maintaining the ability to balance both academics and athletics. Suffolk's unique location allows our student-athletes to take advantage of the many opportunities and resources that downtown Boston offers. Our student-athletes will utilize their surrounds to take advantage of internships, co-ops and other education opportunities, while still being able to make the most of their academic learning experience and play the sport they love. 

MISSION STATEMENT

The roles of athletic participation and competition are viewed as an important aspect of the Suffolk University experience. The Athletic Department and its professional staff exist to serve the entire university community by providing an environment for an individual to enhance their quality of life through the value of sport and/or recreational participation. 

Adherence to NCAA, CCC, GNAC and NWGC Constitutions and bylaws establish a commitment to sportsmanship, fair play and striving for individual and team success, all of which complement and reinforce an excellence in all academic pursuits. Student-athletes need encounter an environment conducive to the enrichment of community life on campus and opportunity for community service beyond our campus. 

Participants learn to compete effectively and with integrity in any setting, how to provide leadership, and how to be resilient defeat or victory. Lessons discovered through athletic participation need instill and strength all aspects that contribute to success in both a student-athlete's undergraduate years as well as their future professional and personal experiences.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Promote and support student-athlete's commitment to academic success
  2. Teach student-athletes beneficial life skills and attributes such as teamwork, collaboration, self-discipline, communication, negotiation, personal health and wellness through practice, competition, and professional development activities
  3. Demonstrate and expect the highest level of sportsmanship from athletes, coaches, parents, students and spectators
  4. Work cooperatively with the Office of Admissions and academic departments to recruit well-qualified student-athletes
  5. Promote and maintain athletics staff unity and morale in a cooperative relationship with the entire university community
  6. Serve as positive role models, while representing Suffolk University
  7. Advance the University by coordinating fundraising activities with the Advancement Office and engage alumni relations through the Suffolk University Alumni Association
  8. Demonstrate fiscal responsibility by adhering to the annual budget and the University's fiscal policies and procedures
  9. Strive for all teams to achieve winning records

NICKNAME

In 1950, Suffolk University adopted the the Rams name and acquired a mascott -- Hiram, who was named after the University founder' Gleason Archer's brother, Hiram, a faculty member and trustee.
