THE FIELD
Almost 70 schools applied to compete at the Connecticut College Invitational, but the races were capped at about 40 scores to ensure the level of competitiveness.
The men's race is solid. It features seven teams that are nationally ranked – No. 19 Amherst, No. 17 Middlebury, No. 12 MIT, No. 11 NYU, No. 14 St. Olaf, No. 13 Tufts, No. 21 Williams --- and 16 regionally ranked schools – Babson, Bates, Bowdoin, Brandeis, Colby, Connecticut College, Keene, Marywood, Roger Williams, St. Lawrence, UMass Dartmouth, Union, Vassar, Wesleyan and WPI.
All of the Rams' primary competitors within the region will be racing including Conference of New England members Hartford, along with Suffolk and the Hawks of RWU.
THE DISTANCE
Suffolk's squads will be once again running the NCAA DIII standard of 6k for the women and 8k for the men. It is the fourth meet in 2024 that the Rams men will run an 8k, while the women will battle in a 6k for the third time.
COACH'S QUOTE
"I'm looking for a breakout performance for our men's teams, which will catapult them back into the regional rankings," head coach Will Feldman said. "We've had some excellent individual performances this season, but we've yet to have five guys racing well on the same day."
Feldman continued, "Our chief rival Roger Williams will be in attendance, and the team is eager to finally compete against them for the first time this season.
SUFFOLK'S SCOUT
- Saturday will be an excellent test for Tim Barry and Thomas Novy, who are both top contenders for an individual bid to nationals.
- Keep an eye out for senior Connor Hawyard, who's been working extremely hard and could be a surprise performer of the day for the blue-and-gold.
