BEVERLY, Mass. – Declan Shannon of the Suffolk men's cross country team was named Conference of New England Rookie of the Week after his effort at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships.
Shannon, a freshman from Mansfield, Massachusetts, clocked a personal-best 29:43.6 8k to claim 190th in the field of 207 at one of the oldest cross country meets in the country. He helped the Suffolk squad take 17th as a team.
The weekly accolade is the first for Shannon in his collegiate career. He is the first Ram to be named the league's best rookie in a seven-day span since Sean Jacobsen took home the honor Sept. 26, 2022. The weekly accolade is the third for the blue-and-gold this season as Tim Barry and Thomas Novy were named CNE Runner of the Week Oct. 7 and Sept. 23, respectively.
Suffolk is back in action this weekend, Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Connecticut College Invitational in Waterford, Connecticut.
