BOSTON – Suffolk indoor track & field will divide its team for the upcoming weekend. The Rams runners will compete at Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic with the women's event on tap for Friday, Jan. 28 and the men's event running Sunday, Jan. 29, while the blue-and-gold field athletes will participate at Tufts' Branwen Smith-King Invitational Sunday, Jan. 29

UPDATED SPECTATOR POLICY
With the health and well-being of students and staff remaining the highest priority, effective immediately, spectators will not be permitted at Suffolk University Athletics home contests through the end of January 2022. At that time, the spectator policy will be reevaluated. 

The change in the spectator policy comes as a precaution against the increase in COVID cases throughout the city, state and region.  

The spectator policy applies to on-campus venues including, but not limited to, Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court, home of Suffolk basketball, as well as off-campus locations in the men's ice hockey home rink, Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink, and the women's hockey arena, Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

LAST TIME OUT [ MEN ]
Suffolk men's indoor track & field returned to competition Sunday, Jan. 23 at the USM COVID Catch Up. Matyas Csiki-Fejer earned his spot at New Englands, while Nic Malm and Carter Nevulis both registered personal records.

LAST TIME OUT [ WOMEN ] 
Over the weekend, Suffolk women's indoor track & field got back into action at the USM COVID Catch Up. Two Rams recorded personal records, one had a season-best and Catherine Madden made her collegiate debut.

THE FIELD – JOHN THOMAS TERRIER CLASSIC [ MEN ]
The blue-and-gold will be tested by its competition at Boston University Sunday. Of the 27 institutions scheduled to participate, Suffolk is one of the handful of Division III squads with the bulk of the opponents from NCAA Division I and Division II programs. 

THE FIELD – JOHN THOMAS TERRIER CLASSIC [ WOMEN ]
Suffolk will be joined by 40-plus other institutions at Boston University. The competition spans all NCAA divisions with familiar Division III foes Bates, Brandeis, Lasell, MIT, NYU, Springfield, Tufts, Wentworth, Williams, Worcester State and WPI set to make an appearance.

THE FIELD – BRANWEN SMITH-KING INVITATIONAL
Over 20 schools will converge on the Gantcher Field House in Medford, Massachusetts Sunday. Joining the Rams from the GNAC will be Colby Sawyer and Emmanuel.

SUFFOLK STANDOUTS [ MEN ]

• Several athletes will be making their debut in their main events this weekend.
• Ram rookies Thomas Novy and Tim Barry will race the 3k and will be looking to overtake senior captain Nic Malm for the top time in the GNAC.
• Matyas Csiki-Fejer will also race the 3k with the ops of running 8:20 or faster, which historically will qualify for nationals.
• Defending GNAC indoor 400 champion Robert Solari will run the event for the first time this season looking to join teammate Cole Bolduc in the top of the league rankings. Bolduc enters the weekend second in both the 200 and 400, respectively.
• Sophomore Selvin Backert will run his first 800 of the season and has the potential to qualify for regionals and secure the top spot in the GNAC.
• Backert's roommate, Kely Maloney currently holds the top time in the GNAC and they will be racing head-to-head for bragging rights.
• Standout freshman Carter Nevulis will attempted to qualify for regionals and move up from second to first in the GNAC long jump rankings.
• Nevulis will join his classmate Eddie McCarthy in the triple jump as well.
• Michael Balestra, Matthew Smith, Frank Irizarry all head into the weekend first, second and third in the conference in the weight throw and should be contending for a spot in the final this weekend.
• McCarthy holds the top spot in the league in the shot put and will back in the ring this weekend against some of the best DIII shot putters in New England.

RAMS TO WATCH [ WOMEN ]

• Rams rookie Gwen Koziara will run the 3k looking to secure the top mark in the GNAC and a potential regional qualifier.
• Sophomore captain Amanda Walden will race her first 400 of the season and could come away with a new school record.
• Freshman Catherine Madden is looking to build upon an excellent collegiate debut, which found her ranked in the top five in the GNAC.
• Lauren Wood and Grace Daheny, who are currently ranked first and second in the GNAC in the long jump, will be back in action Sunday with sophomore Grace Dreher joining the pair in the event with her season debut.
• Throwers Allison Rodrigues, Caitlyn Filloramo and Leah Doucot are all ranked in the top four in the GNAC for the weight and have an excellent week of training to prepare for this weekend's action. Filloramo is primed to break her school record and qualify for regionals. Rodrigues will go for her third consecutive regional ticket in the shot put.

RAMS RECOGNITION [ MEN ]
After the first meet of 2022, Suffolk men's indoor track & field senior captains Michael Balestra and Matyas Csiki-Fejer earned weekly awards from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Monday afternoon. Balestra garnered GNAC Field Athlete of the Week, while Csiki-Fejer collected GNAC Track Athlete of the Week.

RAMS RECOGNITION [ WOMEN ]
Caitlyn Filloramo of the Suffolk women's indoor track & field team was tabbed the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Field and Rookie of the Week following her performance at USM's COVID Catch Up, the league office announced Monday.
