Volleyball Sweeps Curry in Road Finale

MILTON, Mass. – Suffolk volleyball capped off its regular-season road schedule in sweeping fashion as it defeated Curry, 3-0, in Conference of New England action Wednesday night at Katz Gymnasium. 

THE BASICS

SET ONE RECAP (25-9, SUFFOLK)

  • Up 5-4, Suffolk stretched its advantage to 11-5, which forced Curry into a timeout. 
  • Out of the break, the Colonels scored one, before the Rams rattled off six straight points to lengthen its lead to 17-6. 
  • The blue-and-gold commanded the pace of play out of Curry's second timeout of the set to easily take the set, 25-9. 

SET TWO RECAP (25-19, SUFFOLK)

  • Suffolk jumped out to a 7-3 lead.
  • Back-and-forth action allowed things to remain close with Suffolk in front, 16-14. 
  • The Rams started to build a comfortable cushion behind five unanswered points that made it a 21-14 score in their favor. 
  • See-saw action closed things out with and thanks to its seven-point edge, Suffolk managed to claim the stanza, 25-19.  

SET THREE RECAP (25-17, SUFFOLK)

  • Out of a 5-all tie, the Rams snuck in front, 10-6 with a 5-1 run. 
  • Another 5-1 spurt by the blue-and-gold extended Suffolk's advantage to 15-7. 
  • The playing field evened out and the Colonels chipped the deficit down to four, 17-11. 
  • The Rams compiled a 4-1 run to regain a near double-digit distance, 21-12. 
  • The teams traded points the rest of the way, which allowed Suffolk to clinch the set and match. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Sami Shore anchored Suffolk's attack with nine kills on a .692 attack percentage to go along with one block. 
  • Isabelle Huzar had recorded a kill on all six of her tries with one dig to her credit as well. 
  • Chloe Clement contributed six kills. 
  • McKenna Keowen added three kills, seven digs, one blocks, three aces and one assist. 
  • Aislinn Lanigan and Jayla Martinez set up the attack with 12 handouts and 11 helpers, respectively. The former added seven digs and one ace, while the latter registered three aces and a pair of dig.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk wont its fifth straight match against Curry to move to 9-3 all-time against the Colonels. 
  • It is the sixth sweep in the all-time series, fifth straight 3-0 decision. 
  • At Curry, the blue-and-gold is now 4-1. 
  • Suffolk is unbeaten, 5-0, against Curry in the Scott Blanchard era.
