Volleyball Bests Bay Path in Straight Sets

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Suffolk volleyball opened its tri-match at Parkinson Gymnasium in sweeping fashion as the Rams defeated Bay Path, 3-0, Saturday afternoon. The victory came by set scores 25-15, 25-22 and 25-17.

SET ONE RECAP (25-15, SUFFOLK)

  • Out of a 6-all tie, Suffolk snuck in front, 10-8 on a couple Wildcats errors and kills from Chloe Clement and Isabelle Huzar
  • The Rams rattled off a 10-1 run that made it a double-digit distance, 20-10. In that span, Sami Shore supplied three kills. 
  • The blue-and-gold scored three straight with a McKenna Keowen kill and back-to-back Shore aces. 
  • Bay Path took a timeout and rallied out of the break. The Wildcats scored four unanswered to cut Suffolk's lead down to nine, 24-15. 
  • Jasmine James knocked down her fifth kill of the afternoon to close the set for the Rams. 

SET TWO RECAP (25-22, SUFFOLK)

  • Down 18-12, Suffolk stormed back. 
  • The Rams compiled a 5-1 run that featured a Huzar block, kills from Emily Norgrove and Tatum Kalt and back-to-back aces from McKenna Keowen.
  • After Bay Path took a timeout Keowen served her third straight ace to keep Suffolk's comeback going. 
  • From there, the playing field leveled three times with the last coming at 22-all. 
  • Shore and Keowen took over for the blue-and-gold with three kills, two from the former around one by the latter, to secure the comeback set win.  

SET THREE RECAP (25-17, SUFFOLK

  • Suffolk jumped out to a 7-0 edge that grew to a 17-5 cushion. 
  • The Wildcats worked their way back and trimmed the deficit down to six twice, with the last at 23-17. 
  • Keowen put on her hero cape as she put up a kill, her seventh of the day, and served her eighth of ace of the match to lock up the Suffolk triumph.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Keowen's all-around effort featured seven kills, eight aces, 17 digs, one block and one helper. 
  • Shore supplied 13 kills on a .722 attack percentage with three digs, two blocks and a pair of aces to her credit. 
  • James finished with eight kills and three digs. 
  • Clement contributed eight kills and six digs. 
  • Jayla Martinez dished out 25 assists go to along with five digs and two aces. 
  • Aislinn Lanigan logged 12 assists, three digs and one ace. 
  • Morgan Kelsey added 23 digs and one handout.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk and Bay Path met for the first time. 
  • Keowen served a career-high eight aces. 
  • Clement matched a personal-best six digs.
