Volleyball Wins Five-Set Thriller in Season Finale at Smith

NORTH HAMPTON, Mass. – The Suffolk volleyball team completed its 2015 season Thursday night with a thrilling 3-2 victory at Smith. The win came by set scores of 25-18, 19-25, 14-25, 25-23 and 15-12. 

Playing in its first five-set match of the year, Suffolk concludes its campaign, its first under the guidance of Bonny Ducharme, 8-20 overall. 

Bridget Allison registered her first collegiate double-double with a 14-kill, 11 digs performance. The 11 digs matched a career-high for the freshman, who finished the evening hitting .231 to go with two assists. Liz Kerek, meanwhile, turned in a double-double of her own with 29 assists and 12 digs, with the sophomore adding four kills and two assists. The Rams also received seven kills and 21 digs from Talia Lombardo with Emma Feeney notching 23 digs. 

As a team Suffolk was one dig shy of 100, recording the most digs by a Rams' squad since Oct. 1, 2014 when Suffolk dug 101 at UMass Dartmouth. 

Smith, who dipped to 5-20 overall, received a 15-kill, 19-dig effort from Mei-Li Smith. 

The first set was all Suffolk after the Rams overcame a 4-0 deficit and rolled to a25-18 victory. With the second stanza locked at 13-all, a late surge lifted the Pioneers to the win, before Smith easily took the third by comfortable margin. In a fourth frame that came down to the wire, Suffolk bounced back to even the score and the Rams fended  off a late rally by the Pioneers in the fifth and deciding set to take match point.
