Volleyball Loses at JWU in Straight Sets

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Suffolk volleyball team suffered a straight set decision in its GNAC regular season finale Tuesday night, falling at Johnson & Wales at the Wildcat Center. The defeat came by set scores of 25-17, 25-13 and 25-20. 

Bridget Allison recorded seven kills, four aces and three digs to lead Suffolk. Talia Lombardo added six kills, five assists, four digs, one ace and one block, with Liz Kerek chipped in 15 assists and two digs. 

The loss dropped Suffolk to 7-20 overall and 3-8 in GNAC play while JWU improved to 18-7 overall and 8-1 in the conference. 

The Wildcats were paced by Emily Kalmink's eight kills and three digs while Paula Cadavid tallied seven kills and 11 digs. JWU hit .403 on the evening as Suffolk was limited to .013 percentage.

JWU got off to a quick start with an 8-2 edge to being the match and never looked back in the first set. The same can be said for the second stanza with the Wildcats taking a 9-3 edge that blossomed to a 17-8 lead, before claiming the set, 25-13. The Rams stayed even with the Wildcats through the majority of the third set and leveled the match at the midway point, 9-9. From there the teams traded points, but it was JWU that strung a run together to put the win away. 

Suffolk returns to action in its season closer Thursday as it travels to Smith for a 7 p.m. match.
