Women’s Golf Prepped for Polar Bear Shootout

BOSTON – Suffolk women's golf has its firs two-day tournament of its 2024-25 schedule on tap this weekend in the Polar Bear Shootout at the Brunswick Golf Club in Brunswick, Maine. The shotgun start on Saturday, Sept. 14 begins at 1:00 p.m., with action scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15.

Suffolk women's golf took its talents to Shaker Farms Country Club Saturday afternoon to get its 2024 season underway at the Westfield State Invitational.

THE COURSE
Nestled in the heart of the midcoast Maine, the Brunswick Golf Club is an 18-hole championship golf course whose origins date back to the late 1800s. 

Suffolk competed at Brunswick Golf Club for the first time a year ago at the 2023 Polar Bear Shootout, Sept. 9-10, 2023. The Rams 18-hole team low at Brunswick GC is a 330, while the two-day low for a blue-and-gold team is 679.  

The Rams' individual record at the course is held by Isabel Smith, 78, while Ellie Yarbrough boasts the best two-day score of 164 of any Suffolk student-athlete on the course.

Ella Torselff is the only active player that has played at Brunswick Golf Club. She shot a 181 (91-90) in her Rams debut a year ago. 

RAMS REWIND – POLAR BEAR SHOOTOUT 2023
Suffolk competed at the Polar Bear Shootout for the first time in program history last season, Sept. 9-10, 2023. 

Suffolk started the two-day tournament with a 349 to hold seventh place with Saturday's scores record. On Sunday, the Rams shaved 19 strokes off their team card for a 330, a Rams 18-hole record. When combined the blue-and-gold finished with 679 to take sixth in the field of eight, just one stroke behind Babson.  

Individually, Ellie Yarbrough took 12th in the 46-golfer field with a two-day card of 164.

RAMS RECOGNITION
Suffolk women's golf's freshman Krisna Mahendran was named the first Northeast Women's Golf Conference's (NWGC) Rookie of the Week for the 2024-25 season after her collegiate debut at the Westfield State Open Sept. 7.

Suffolk takes next weekend off before traveling to Keene, New Hampshire for the Keene State Invitational Sept. 29.
