SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Suffolk men's cross country took the second spot at the Conference of New England Championships Saturday afternoon on the campus of Western New England. The runner-up finish marks the fourth in a row and fourth time in program history that the Rams claimed second in the league title race.
Suffolk captured second with 50 points to finish behind four-time conference champ Roger Williams, who earned 38 points behind four all-league runners including back-to-back individual champ Nathan Tassey (25:14.97). Endicott finished with 46 points behind the blue-and-gold to round out the podium.
RAMS RUNNERS
- Fourteen (14) Rams were featured in the field of 120 runners.
- Tim Barry paced the blue-and-gold pack. The senior came through the 8k finisher's chute 11 seconds behind Tassey in 25:25.95 to capture second.
- Thomas Novy found his way into the top 10 in seventh as he crossed the tape in 25:55.09.
- Hayden Green was one spot out of the top 10 in 11th with a 26:11.38.
- Cam Fredette claimed 14th with a 26:20.28.
- Sean Jacobsen was just shy of the top 15 in 16th behind a 26:26.42 showing.
- Connor Hayward clocked a 27:24.80, good for 24th.
- Jadan Wenceslao (35th) and Jacob Dubin (38th) placed within the top 40th. The former finished in 28:07.18 and the latter compiled a 28:12.42.
- Kely Maloney (28:26.88), Patrick Lambe (29:17.52), Declan Shannon (29:40.17), Sebastian Vickers-Richard (29:47.42), Michael Najarian (32:13.05) and Matthew McGoldrick (35:09.26) rounded out the Rams on the course.
ALL-CNE
- Barry, Novy, Green and Fredette all finished in the top-15 en route to All-CNE recognition.
- Novy and Green captured their third all-conference nods in as many years and in their collegiate careers.
- Barry scooped up All-CNE for the second time and in as many years.
- Fredette is a first-time all-league performer.
RAMS RECORDS
- Green (26:11.38), Jacobsen (26:26.42), Wenceslao (28:07.18), Maloeny (28:26.88) and Najarian (32:13.05) all posted 8k personal bests.
NOTEWORTHY
- Suffolk has finished as the CNE runner-up in each of its appearances on the conference championship course (four times).
- Suffolk's 50 points is the fewest by the Rams on the 8k course at WNE.
- Barry's second-place performance is the second-best by a Suffolk runner at the league race in all-time history behind Matyas Csiki-Fejer's title in 2021.
- The Rams tied the program-record with four all-conference distinctions for the second straight season and second time in program history.
