Penalty Kicks Push Men’s Soccer Past Nichols, 2-0

DUDLEY, Mass.  – Suffolk men's soccer converted a pair of penalty kicks to two goals and Nathan Harlow stopped all six shots he faced to shutout Nichols, 2-0, in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Michael J. Vendetti Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
A good penalty kick by Francisco Valck at the 38:26 mark allowed Suffolk to take a 1-0 lead into the half.  

Suffolk doubled the distance with its second good PK of the day. This time Dylan Trachtenberg converted the penalty kick 3:27 into the second half to pad the Rams advantage to a pair, 2-0. 

The score stood still from there as Nathan Harlow stopped the four shots he faced and Franco Barreto Santana denied the lone Rams attempt on target in the last minute. 

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Harlow had six saves in the shutout. 
  • Barreto Santana turned aside six shots.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Valck and Trachtenberg were responsible for the Rams goals, both came on penalty kicks. 
  • Suffolk outshot Nichols, 21-7, including an 8-2 edge in shots on target. 
  • The Rams had more corner kick chances as well, 11-2. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk remains unbeaten in CNE contests this season (3-0-1). 
  • The Rams are undefeated, 2-0-2 all-time against Nichols. 
  • Suffolk defeated Nichols for the first time since Oct. 9, 2021, the first-ever meeting.
  • On the road, the Rams are now 1-0-1 versus the Bison. 
  • The two goals scored are the most by Suffolk in a single-game versus Nichols all-time. 
  • The shutout was the second in the all-time series between Suffolk and Nichols, first since a 1-0 Rams' win Oct. 9, 2021. 
  • All four meetings in the series have taken place during the Bill Maddock era. 
  • Suffolk scored its third penalty kick of the year. 
  • Suffolk made two penalty kicks in a single game for the second time this season. 
  • Valck is on a two-game point streak. In that stretch he has scored two goals. 
  • Trachtenberg had his first collegiate goal. 
  • Harlow had his fourth shutout of the season, sixth of his collegiate career.
