BOSTON – Suffolk men's hockey wraps up the 2019-20 regular-season this weekend at Castleton and No. 1 Norwich. The Rams first visit the Spartans Friday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m., before clashing with the Cadets the next day, Saturday, Feb. 15 at 4 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk men's hockey opened its final week of the 2019-20 regular-season with a 4-1 setback to No. 6 Babson Monday night at the Babson Skating Center.

RAMS REVIEW
A five-game skid has put Suffolk at 6-15-2 on the year and 2-12-2 against NEHC foes.  

Brian Brooks has powered the Rams' 56-goal offense. In his final season in blue-and-gold, Brooks has 16 points with five goals and 11 helpers. Alex Kolowrat and Joseph Mortillaro match Brooks' goals numbers, while Shawn Montgomery have a knack for setting up scoring with eight assists each. Points wise, Montgomery is second on the squad with 12, Lowe has 11 and the trio of Kolowrat (5g, 5a), Mortillaro (5g, 5a) and Miller Rubin (1g, 9a) all have 10.  

Cal Wilcox has taken on the bulk of the load in net. He holds a 4.16 GAA and .891 save percentage. Jarret Bovarnick got his first nod in between the pipes and enters the weekend with a 2.97 GAA and .911 save percentage. 

CADETS CATCHUP
Castleton has fallen in eight straight, staring with an 8-4 setback at Suffolk, to head into the weekend 5-16-2 overall and 3-12-1 against conference competition.  

Glenn Wiswell anchors the Spartans scoring with his 22-point stat line divided in half between goals and assists. Calvin Moise and Troy Taylor are consistent contributors to the 57-goal offense as well. The former has 16 points on six goald and 10 helpers, while the latter holds 15 points on a team-high 14 assists and one strike. 

In net, Brandon Collett has taken the bulk of the load. In 17 games play, he has built a 4.53 GAA and .901 save percentage. Kyle Alaverdy has seen action in 13 games and brings a 4.48 GAA and .878 save percentage into the weekend.

Seven different Rams scored with 10 student-athletes producing a point to anchor Suffolk men's hockey's well-balanced 8-4 victory over Castleton Jan. 11, 2020 at Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink.

  • Suffolk has strung back-to-back wins together over Castleton to move to 3-1-0 all-time against the Spartans.

CADETS CATCHUP
Norwich, who enters the weekend as the top team in the latest USCHO.com Coaches Poll, is on a 13-game unbeaten streak with 11 victories. The Cadets, who are 19-2-2 overall and 14-1-1 in NEHC action, have not let up a goal in the last four games, outscoring its foes, 17-0.  

Offensively, Norwich's 77-goal offense has been well-balanced nearly every skater with at least one point, nine in double figures, a trio of which have surpassed the 20-point plateau. Felix Brassard leads the way with 17 goals and 10 assists for 27 points. Coby Downs sit second on the squad with 23 points behind 15 helpers and eight markers. Gabriel Chicoine rounds out the threesome with 21 points on four strikes and 17 set-ups.  

Tom Aubrun is the Cadets every day starter between the pipes. He holds an impressive 0.95 GAA and .961 save percentage through 22 games played. 

WE MEET AGAIN
Suffolk men's hockey tested then-No. 4 Norwich to its limits, but came out on the wrong side of a 2-1 decision Jan. 10 at Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink.

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk dropped to 1-3-0 against Norwich all-time after falling to the Cadets in back-to-back meetings. 
  • The Rams first and only win over the Cadets came in the series opener by a one-goal decision in Vermont, Dec. 1, 2018. 
  • Suffolk is 1-1-0 when playing Norwich at Kreitzberg Arena.
