Weisse Named GNAC Corvias Runner of the Week

BOSTON – Emma Weisse of the Suffolk women's cross country team raced her way to GNAC Corvias Runner of the Week accolades after setting a new personal 5k record for the second time this season, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Weisse upstaged her 19:25.70 5k performance from the UMass Dartmouth Invitational Sept. 16 by seven seconds at the Keene State Invitational over the weekend to set a personal best once again. The sophomore, who hails from Stoneham, Massachusetts, ran a 6:14 minute-mile to cross the tape in 19:12 good for eighth overall in a field of 83 runners, which featured Brandeis, the sixth-best team in New England.

The weekly accolade marks the second-ever recognition by the conference for Weisse, as she took home rookie of the week nods a year ago. Weisse, who was named the best runner over a seven day stretch by the conference for the first time in her career, joins classmate Emily Manfra, who took home the recognition for the first week of 2017 Sept. 5 as a weekly award winner this season.

Weisse and the Rams return to action Friday, Oct. 13 as they use the Saints Invitational at Boston's Franklin Park to prep for the 2017 GNAC Championships.
