Women’s Cross Country Takes Sixth at Saints Invitational

BOSTON – Emily Manfra and Emma Weisse finished in the top five to lead the Suffolk women's cross team to a sixth-place finish at the Saints Invitational hosted by Emmanuel at Franklin Park Friday afternoon. 

The Rams averaged a 21:54 pace to claim sixth in the 18 team field. Fellow GNAC member Norwich took home the invitational's trophy with 62 total points thanks to an average 20: 54. 

Manfra, a freshman from Stoneham, Massachusetts, was just 22 seconds behind first-place finisher New England College's Allison Granata, crossing the tape in 19:55 to claim second in a field of 167 runners. Classmate Weisse was three seconds over a 20-minute 5k to take fifth overall. 

Sophomores Lily Nelson and Audrey Kopich and junior Michelle Kearney all finished in the top 100. Nilsen crossed the tape in 22:52 for 64th, Kopich finished in 23:35 for 70th, while Kearney's time of 23:35 was good for 77th. 

Rounding out the Rams' runners were rookies Madison Veit (123 - 26:24) and Allison Espindola (159 - 31:15). 

Suffolk turns its attention to the GNAC Championships Saturday, Oct. 29 at Franklin Park. The 5k women's race is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
