Kristin Hovie joined Scott Blanchard’s staff as assistant coach for prior to the 2018 campaign and begins her third season in 2020. 

Her first year coaching the blue-and-gold was one for the record books as the Rams' 7-5 league ledger was the best since 2005 and Suffolk secured a spot in the conference semifinals after its first-ever win in the quarterfinals with a sweep of Lasell. That 3-0 win over the Lasers also marked the first time Suffolk defeated Lasell in program history. Anchored by senior All-GNAC third-team honoree Talia Lombardo, who graduated as the program's all-time aces leader and a member of Suffolk's 1,000-assist club, the Rams wrapped up the season 12-17 overall.  

Suffolk one-upped the 2018 campaign a year later with more highlight performances. The 2019 squad became the winningest in the program’s history with a 20-12 overall mark and matched the most GNAC victories with a 9-3 league ledger, good for fourth place and hosting rights in the postseason for just the second time. Headlines continued to flood in in the quarterfinals, which saw Suffolk punch its ticket to the semifinals for the second time in as many years and overall thanks to sweeping Colby Sawyer. 

Although 2019 ended in the semis to the hands of conference and regional powerhouse Johnson & Wales, Harmony Johnson and Hannah Fabiano were awarded for their efforts on the hardwood with All-GNAC Third-Team honors, while Stephanie Rheaume picked up a place on the conference’s all-tournament team. Additionally, Johnson garnered NEWVA All-Rookie Team Distinction and Sarah Mullahy was selected to the NEWVA Senior All-Star Classic.  

Hovie and Blanchard have been on the same sideline together for the past two seasons as the pair each served as assistant coaches at Brown. Hovie comes to Boston after a two-year stint with the Bears.   

She began her coaching career after capping off a four-year playing career at Binghamton. As a sophomore she led the Bears to the America East Conference title and the NCAA Tournament, where they competed against Penn State. In her final season at Binghamton, the outside hitter registered her 1,000th career kill on Senior Day. 

Hovie graduated from Binghamton in 2015 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in English Rhetoric.
