Volleyball Takes Gordon Down in Five

WENHAM, Mass. – Suffolk volleyball captured a crucial Conference of New England contest with a five-set thrilling triumph over Gordon Saturday at the Bennett Athletic Center. The Rams win came by set scores 25-11, 10-25, 25-22, 15-22 and 15-13.

SET ONE RECAP (25-22, SUFFOLK)

  • The playing field was even from the get-goal with four lead exchanges and six tied scores. 
  • From 12-12, Suffolk scored five straight to ignite a 9-2 stretch that gave the blue-and-gold a 21-14 advantage. 
  • The Fighting Scots fought back with an 8-2 run to make it a two-point gap, 24-22, and Scott Blanchard used a timeout. 
  • Sami Shore knocked down a kill out of the huddle to seal the first fame for the blue-and-gold, 25-22. 

SET TWO RECAP (25-10, GORDON)

  • Suffolk fell behind early, 8-4. 
  • The distance grew to double figures, 18-8, and the Rams were unable to climb out of the hole. 

SET THREE RECAP (25-22, SUFFOLK)

  • The lead flipped flopped twice early on and landed in Suffolk's favor, 9-8 on a McKenna Keowen ace.
  • The senior's ace ignited a 4-1 run that gave the blue-and-gold a 13-9 edge. 
  • Gordon got back into the swing of things with a 7-1 rally of its own and Suffolk font itself down, 16-14. 
  • Four quick points by the blue-and-gold pushed the Rams back in front, 18-16. 
  • Suffolk maintained that margin the rest of the way to coast to the set win, 25-22.  

SET FOUR RECAP (25-15, GORDON)

  • A late surge by Gordon allowed the Fighting Scots to take a 15-13 lead and turn it into a 25-15 set decision that forced a fifth frame.  

SET FIVE RECAP (15-13, SUFFOLK)

  • Gordon scored the first six points of the set. 
  • Down 10-4, Suffolk scored six straight o knot things at 10-all. 
  • Grace Cervenka kill followed by a block by Shore and Chloe Clement gave the Rams a 12-11 edge. 
  • The teams traded points the rest of the way and Suffolk to hang on for the win.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Keowen had a 13-kill, 15-dig double-double with two aces and two assists. 
  • Shore supplised nine kills, three blocks and one dig. 
  • Emily Nogrove notched seven kills, three digs and two helpers. 
  • Jayla Martinez registered 18 assists, six digs and two kills. 
  • Aislinn Lanigan provided 10 helpers and three digs. 
  • Tatum Kalt added 10 digs, two aces and one assist.  

 NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk coupled back-to-back wins together over Gordon for the first time in program history. 
  • The Rams are now 4-11 against the Fighting Scots. 
  • Including today's meeting, five battles have needed five sets to determine a winner. The Rams are now 2-3 versus Gordon in 3-2 decisions. 
  • Suffolk is 2-8 against Fighting Scots at Gordon. 
  • The Rams moved to 2-6 against Gordon in the Blanchard era. 
  • Keowen produced her 13th double-double of the year and 29th of her collegiate career.
