BOSTON – Suffolk volleyball is back in action Wednesday, Oct. 9 when Western New England stops by Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court for a 7:00 p.m. Conference of New England contest.

LAST TIME OUT
For the second time in program history Suffolk volleyball defeated Johnson & Wales as the Rams swept the Wildcats Thursday night at the Wildcat Center. The 3-0 victory came by set scores 25-17, 25-22 and 25-22.  

The win is Suffolk's second over JWU in program history, first since 1997 and first-ever sweep of the Wildcats by the Rams.

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk has been off from competition since it swept Johnson & Wales Oct. 3 to move to 15-4 on the year.  

McKenna Keowen and Sami Shore are two-way forces for the blue-and-gold. Keowen tops the team in kills per est (3.27) and aces (0.73) and is second on the squad in digs per set (0.73). Shore, meanwhile, adds 2.26 kps, good for second on the team, and is the top threat at the net with 0.77 blocks per set (bps). Jayla Martinez and Aislinn Lanigan split time as the Rams' setter with 6.16 assists per set and 3.74 assists per set, respectively. Morgan Kelsey leads the defensive unit with 4.45 dps.

GET TO KNOW THE GOLDEN BEARS
Western New England has won four matches in a row, all sweeps, to bring a 13-3 overall record and 1-1 CNE ledger to Boston.  

Alissa Hawes paces the Golden Bears' attack with 4.20 kps. Lea Barber supplies 2.18 kps and a team-high 0.51 aces per set to the offense. Taylor Geist is WNE's primary setter with 9.44 assists per set.

Becca Mayer leads the defense with 4.26 dps and Hawes adds 3.33 dps. Isabelle Petty and Yemayma Molina contribute 0.69 bps each. 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk trails the all-time series, which dates back to 2003, 5-6. 
  • The Rams have rattled off four straight wins over the Golden Bears, including last year's 3-1 triumph. 
  • Three matches have been decided in straight set fashion. Suffolk is 1-2 in such instances. The last sweep came Oct. 13, 2021 in the blue-and-gold's favor. 
  • Six outing were determined in four sets. Three of Suffolk's wins were 3-1 decisions including the last two meetings. 
  • The Rams and WNE went to five once, Sept. 28, 2019, which Suffolk won. 
  • Suffolk is unbeaten, 4-0, versus the Golden Bears in the Scott Blanchard era.

The Rams take a break from CNE competition Saturday, Oct. 12 when they travel to Lasell for a tri-match with Pratt. Suffolk will clash with the Cannoneers at 1:00 p.m., before taking on the Lasers at 3:00 p.m.
