BOSTON
– Suffolk volleyball will compete in honor of those who have and are serving in the armed forces with a pair of Military Appreciation matches this Saturday, Sept. 7 at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court

Ram Nation's Salute to the Troops begins at 11:00 a.m. versus Rutgers Newark and wraps up at 3:00 p.m. against Eastern Connecticut State.

Suffolk will wear special-edition military appreciation jerseys during the contests with blue-and-gold camo sleeves, a yellow ribbon on the left arm and an American flag on the upper back.

In addition to the new uniforms, the Rams would like to bring attention to Minutes Wisely, an organization founded by Richard Fleek that provides meaningful experiences for veterans, first responders and Gold Star families by sending them to sporting events. The organization's ultimate goal is to combat veteran suicide by creating opportunities for individuals to connect, engage and rediscover a sense of purpose through the power of community and camaraderie.

"Minutes Wisely is run by a very good friend of mine, Richard (Fleek) who is a Navy Veteran," Suffolk volleyball head coach Scott Blanchard said. "I've had many family members who have served in the different branches of the military, and I believe, had programs like this been around, they would have really appreciated it."

Blanchard continued, "I believe it is important that we, Suffolk volleyball and the entire University community, needs to do as much as we can for those who lay their lives on the line for our country."

Minutes Wisely was founded in 2022 and is on the ground floor and could use as much help as it can to prevent veteran suicide through sending veterans to sporting events. If you are able, Suffolk volleyball asks that you donate to the organization here

Suffolk volleyball is off to its best start since 2016 with a 3-0 overall mark. The Rams welcome the Scarlet Raiders and the Warriors to the basement of the Ridgeway Building for their first home bouts of 2024 with potential history on the line as senior Morgan Kelsey is just two aces away from tying the program's all-time record (231) and three from rewriting the mark.
