Volleyball Grabs USMC/AVCA Team Academic Excellence

AVCA RELEASE

LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the second straight season, Suffolk volleyball was rewarded for its work inside the classroom as the Rams garnered USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2020-21 season from the United State Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), the national organization announced today.

Suffolk received the award, which has been handed out since 1992-93, for the second time in the Scott Blanchard era and third time in program history thanks to its team GPA of 3.566, which was the fourth best among Ram Nation's 19 varsity teams.

The 1,275 pool or recipients in 2020-21 includes programs from each of the NCAA Divisions as well as NAIA, two-year colleges, NCAA, USCAA, collegiate men and beach, and high school. The rams were among 33 NCAA Division III teams to excel academically, which was an all-time record since the award was initiated 28 seasons ago, with Commonwealth Coast Conference counterparts Endicott and Salve Regina joining the blue-and-gold on the list.
