Volleyball Earns USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

USMC/AVCA RELEASE

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Suffolk volleyball was acknowledged for its efforts inside the classroom as the Rams were one of 1,313 teams to garner a nod from the United State Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2019-20 season.

The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, recognizes volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale.

Suffolk picked up the feat for the first time in the Scott Blanchard era second time in program history, first since 2018, behind a cumulative GPA of 3.458.

The 1,300-plus pool of recipients includes programs from each of the NCAA Divisions as well as NAIA, two-year colleges, NCAA, USCAA, collegiate men and beach, and high school. The Rams were among 231 NCAA Division III teams to excel academically with Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) counterparts Johnson & Wales, Regis and Simmons joining the blue-and-gold on the list.
