Volleyball Stops Anna Maria in Straight Sets

PAXTON, Mass. – Suffolk volleyball cruised to a straight set victory over Anna Maria Saturday afternoon at the Fuller Activities Center. The GNAC victory came by set scores 25-6, 25-12 and 25-19.

SET ONE RECAP (25-6, SUFFOLK)

  • Suffolk surged out a 7-1 edge after an open run that featured a pair of kills from both Hannah Fabiano and Emerson Martin
  • The early advantage blossomed to a hefty 16-4 Suffolk score.  
  • After the AMCATs took advantage of a Rams' service error, the visitors responded by scoring seven straight to go up 23-5. 
  • Monica Bolduk secured the set for the blue-and-gold with an ace. 

SET TWO RECAP (25-12, SUFFOLK)

  • Suffolk shot ahead to an 8-3 lead that turned into a 16-6 cushion at the midway point. 
  • After a 4-0 Rams run that made it a 21-8 blue-and-gold frame, the teams traded points, which allowed Anna Maria to pull back within 10, 22-12. 
  • It was all Suffolk from there who put away the final three points behind kills from Fabiano and Stephanie Rheaume and capped off the set on a Michelle Lo ace.  

SET THREE RECAP (25-19, SUFFOLK )

  • The Rams trailed for the first time on the day, 6-2. 
  • A timeout by Scott Blanchard pushed the blue-and-gold in the right direct as it went on a 5-1 stretch out of the huddle to even the stanza at 7-all. 
  • See-saw action ensued and the score would level again at 10 and once more at 13. 
  • Suffolk switched the lead on an AMCATs attack error. 
  • The miscue jump started a Rams 7-0 rally that made things lopsided, 20-13. 
  • Anna Maria kept things interesting down the stretch, but for every pair of points the hosts put on the board the Rams responded to remain in front and hold on for the win.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Fabiano paced Suffolk's 36-kill attack with 13 of her own on a .500 attack percentage to go along with a pair of aces and nine digs. 
  • Kayla Barbera contributed 11 kills of her own behind a .450 connection rate with eight digs and two aces to her credit. 
  • Rheaume registered four kills with Martin adding three. 
  • Harmony Johnson set up the offense with 29 assists. The rookie added two aces to the offense and three digs to the defense.     

NOTEWORHTY

  • Suffolk defeated Anna Maria for the third straight meeting to improve to 6-3 all-time versus the AMCATs. 
  • All nine outings between the Rams and Anna Maria have been decided in straight sets.
  • The win marks the 15th for the blue-and-gold this season, which is good for fourth most in the Rams' all-time results behind the 1997 (18), 2003 (17) and 2013 (16) teams.
  • Bolduk served a career-high five aces. 
  • Lo dished out her first-ever assist. 
  • Chryssabella Jones-Craig recorded a personal-best two kills.
