WINTHROP, Mass. – For the second straight week and third time this season, Harmony Johnson of the Suffolk volleyball team was recognized as GNAC Rookie of the week for her 9.36 assists, 0.55 aces and 1.82 digs per set work in a 3-0 week for the Rams, the league office announced yesterday.
Johnson is the first Ram to be named the best rookie over a seven day stretch in the league three times in one in Suffolk's weekly awards record books, which date through the 2010 campaign.
The Riverside, California native started out with 22 handouts and two digs in a straight set win over Becker to build up for a conference tri-match where she dished out 9.00 aps and 2.00 dps.
In a five-set win over Emmanuel, she had 37 assists, eight digs, four aces and a pair of blocks before wrapping up the week with a double-double effort that featured a career-high 44 assists and 10 digs with two aces and three kills.
Johnson has been a critical ingredient to Suffolk's 5-0 league start, its best since 1997, and 14-5 overall record. The rookie, who averages 8.07 aps, good for fourth in the league, sets up the fourth-best offensive in 10.43 kps.
Johnson and the Rams are back in action tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 9 when they welcome No. 15 Johnson & Wales to the Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court for a 7 p.m. conference clash.
