BOSTON – Suffolk volleyball will play for a cause this Saturday, Sept. 28 as it hosts its second tri-match in as many weeks when Norwich and Western New England make the trip to Beacon Hill for the Rams' Lace Up for Pediatric Cancer event. Action gets underway at 11 a.m. with the lone GNAC match of the day featuring Suffolk versus the Cadets with the blue-and-gold wrapping up play at the Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court at 3 p.m. against the Golden Bears.

LACE UP FOR PEDIATRIC CANCER
This Saturday, Sept. 28 the Suffolk volleyball team will Lace Up for Pediatric cancer as the Rams host Norwich and Western New England in a tri-match at the Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court. The Rams will be lacing up their sneakers in gold for their pair of awareness contests.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk volleyball slipped in a cross-city matchup in straight sets, falling at Wentworth, 3-0, Tuesday night at Tansey Gymnasium. The Rams setback came by set scores 25-18, 25-23 and 25-15.

RAMS REVIEW
Suffolk return to Ridgeway with a 9-5 overall record and is perfect in GNAC competition with a 2-0 ledger. 

Suffolk's success is thanks in large part to its well-balanced offense that is paced by Hannah Fabiano's 2.59 kps, while Kayla Barbera and Sarah Mullahy follow right behind with 2.14 kps and 1.92 kps, respectively. Harmony Johnson holds down the Rams' setting role with 7.98 aps to her name. 

Kenzley Bell controls the Rams defense with a team-high 4.32 dps. Dakhensey Marcellus also contributes defensively with 3.28 dps with Mullahy and Stephanie Rheaume each supplying 0.42 bps at the net.

CADETS CATCHUP
Norwich brings a 7-3 record to Boston and a 0-1 GNAC record after slipping to St. Joseph (Conn.) in its conference debut a week ago.

Kathryn Farnum paces the Cadets offense with 3.56 kps and Michele Zummo's 2.48 kps are good for second on the squad. Sarah Farnum sets up Norwich's offense with 7.67 aps.

On defense, Brianna Dawson paves the way with 3.09 dps with K. Farnuma adding 2.69 dps to the effort.

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Last year, the Rams took a 7-6 edge in the all-time series with a five-set thrilling win over the Cadets.
  • Suffolk and Norwich needed five sets to determine a winner just once, a year ago, with the blue-and-gold coming out on top.
  • The Rams have rattled off six straight wins over the Cadets, five in straight sets.

GET TO KNOW THE GOLDEN BEARS
Western New England rolls into Ridgeway with a 6-9 record. The Golden Bears open their Saturday action in the middle match of the day against Norwich at 1 p.m.

The senior duo of Ashley Matthews and Cassandra Holmes anchor the Golden Bears attack with 2.81 kps and 2.12 kps, respectively. The setting role belongs to Caitlyn Sibiskie, who hands out 7.35 aps.

Western New England is balanced defensively with Matthews' 3.12 dps leading the way. Hailey McDonnell is closely behind with 2.66 dps and Taylor Deluga chips in 2.63 dps.

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk and Western New England renew a rivalry Saturday, meeting for the eighth time overall, first in the Scott Blanchard era and first since 2017.
  • The Rams look to snap a two-match skid against the Golden Bears, which put the blue-and-gold 1-6 in the all-time meetings versus WNE.
  • Two matches were sweeps, both of which the Golden Bears won.
  • Five outings were decided in four sets including Suffolk's only win, Sept. 29, 2005.
