BOSTON – The Suffolk women's volleyball team returned to the win column Tuesday night as the Rams defeated local foe Pine Manor, 3-1, inside the friendly confines of Regan Gymnasium.

The win snapped a six-match losing streak and improved Suffolk to 5-15 on the year, while Pine Manor dipped to 3-17 overall.

Chidera Nwankwo was the main ingredient to Suffolk's success as freshman middle hitter recorded 19 kills off a program-best .760 hitting clip. The 19 kills are the most by a Ram since Tori Brillaud tallied 22 versus Lesley September 24, 2013. The hitting clip upstage Bridget Allison's .696 mark set in a 3-1 triumph over Pratt September 19. Jane Buckley also hit a career-best as the sophomore middle hitter rattled off a .412 percentage on eight kills. Talia Lombardo's career-high 36 assists help the Rams hit a season best .276. Lombardo served five aces in the victory, while Allison who led the team defensive with 10 digs, notched a career-high seven aces.

The Gators received a nine-kill effort from Natasia Franklin.

Suffolk got off on the wrong foot in a distance first frame, which Pine Manor captured, 29-27. All cylinders were firing in the second stanza, however, as the Rams jumped out to a 15-10 edge. Suffolk outscored Pine Manor, 7-2, to stretch its lead to 22-12 and leveled the match thanks to a Dorothy Mensah kill, 25-14.

With things even at 5-all in the third set, Nwanwko slammed down a kill to send Allison back to the service line. Behind Allison serving, the Rams strung together 14 answered points to leap ahead 19-5. The host's offensive continued to click for the remainder of the frame and Sydney Littlefield sealed the set, 25-9, on her first collegiate kill.

In the final frame, Suffolk jumped out to 14-8 lead and never looked back, capturing the set and match, 25-19.

Suffolk returns to action tomorrow evening as the Rams close their homestand versus Lesley at 7 p.m.
