Volleyball Drops Tri-Match at Framingham State, vs. Westfield State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – The Suffolk volleyball team dropped a tri-match Saturday afternoon with Westfield State and Framingham State. The Rams were defeated by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference schools in straight sets.

In the opener, the Owls (12-2) defeated Suffolk University (3-9)  in three sets (25-19, 25-14, 25-19). The Owls were led by nine kills on 23 attempts from Casey Doremus.  Kendyl Haney chipped in with eight kills, while Lizzie Taylor was solid in the back row with 24 digs.  Brigid Murray picked up 16 set assists, while Courtney Ryan chipped in with 17 and a pair of aces.

The Rams were led by nine kills from Chidera Nwankwo and six from Madison Martin.  Emma Feeney paced the back row with 13 digs, while Talia Lombardo added seven digs and three assists. Liz Kerek contributed eight digs and 10 assists.

Suffolk closed the day with a  3-0 setback to the hosts' Framingham State by scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-15.  The Suffolk Rams were led by six kills apiece from Martin and Nwankwo. Lombardo and Bridget Allison led the back row effort with 11 and 10 digs, respectively.  Lombardo also added 10 assists for the second double of the season and of her career. 

Framingham was led on the attack by 14 kills from Rackliffe, while freshman Tessa Neverett added seven kills and four digs.  Girard once again led the defensive effort with nine digs.

Suffolk hosts Becker on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match.
