Volleyball Falls Short on Senior Night

The Bridgewater State University Bears topped the Suffolk University Women's Volleyball team by a 3-0 score on Wednesday evening in the Regan Gymnasium.

Sophomore Clara Goncalves (Dennis, Mass.) led all players with 12 kills on the evening to help the Bears improve to a 16-18 overall record on the year. Goncalves recorded five kills in the third match of the evening to help close out the victory in which the Bears closed things out with a 25-17 win. Bridgewater State took the earlier two games by scores of 25-16 and 25-14.

Freshman Krista Iacobucci (Rocky Hill, Conn.) led Suffolk with seven kills on the evening. She also recorded eight digs.

Senior Katie Matatall (Danville, N.H.) collected 11 digs to lead all players on the evening defensively. Matatall also had a team-high two service aces.

Sophomore Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) collected 30 setting assists for the Bears, while sophomore Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) also chipped in with 10 kills. Maymon also recorded a pair of serve aces on the night.

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday.

Bridgewater State will take on MCLA at 1:00pm.

Suffolk will wrap up the regular season when they travel to Emmanuel College for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match beginning at noon.

Prior to the game Suffolk honored the two senior members of the 2014 team: Glamarys Sierra (Carolina, Puerto Rico) and Katie Matatall (Danville, N.H.)
