Akinson Guides Volleyball to Tri-Match Split

The Suffolk University Volleyball team split a non-conference tri-match on Saturday afternoon at Salem State University. The Rams fell in the first game 3-1 to Bridgewater State before rallying in their second match of the day to top the host Vikings.

Senior Hailey Atkinson (Branford, Conn.) combined for 23 kills in the two matches and eight service aces, while freshman Savannah Carpenter (Weston, Conn.) recorded 13 kills in Suffolk's 3-2 victory over Salem State.

In the opener against the Bears, Atkinson recorded a dozen kills while also posting a season-high 24 digs on the defensive side. After dropping their first set, 25-17 the Rams were able to take the next set 27-25. Bridgewater State would sweep the next to the move to an 8-7 overall record on the season.

Senior Colbey Kennedy (Old Lyme, Conn.) recorded 33 digs on the day, including 16 in the game two victory for the Rams.

Senior Sarah Arbogast (Chesterfield, Mo.) helped guide the Rams with 30 setting assists, including 17 in the second match.

Suffolk will be back in action on next Saturday when they travel to Eastern Nazarene College for a non-conference tri-match with the Lions and also the Massachusetts Maritime Buccaneers.
