Volleyball Posts 2-1 Record in Weekend Tournament

The Suffolk University Volleyball team has a 2-1 record over the weekend playing inaugural David Hildebrandt Memorial Invitational hosted by Newbury College.

Sophomore Tori Brillaud (North Andover, Mass.) was named to the All-Tournament team as she posted a monster weekend with 25 kills in three games, along with eight service aces and 31 digs.

The Rams opened the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Johnson State on Friday evening. The Rams swept consectutive sets by scores of 25-10, 25-12 and 25-13. Senior Hannah Davis (Haverhill, Mass.) recorded six kills in the match, while Brillaud had a team-high eight digs in the opener. Suffolk posted 21 service aces in the three games combined, with Brillaud and junior Colbey Kennedy (Old Lyme, Conn.) each collecting five.

In the nightcap the Rams outlasted Bard College by a 3-2 margin. After taking the first set by a 25-14 the Rams would drop the next two games before rallying 25-13 in the fourth game and clinching the match with a 15-11 win in set five. Brillaud and Davis once again led the attack combining for 20 kills in the match. Kennedy and freshman Kristin Hartnett (Wakefield, R.I.) each recorded 13 digs on the defensive side.

Suffolk's lone loss of the tournament would come on Saturday as host Newbury downed the Rams 3-1. Brillaud had team-highs in kills (9) and digs (12) to pace the Rams.

With the tournament the Rams now move to a 3-4 overall record on the season. They'll be back in action on Thursday evening as they host Daniel Webster College in a non-conference matchup at the Regan Gymnasium at 7:00pm.
