Volleyball Falls On Senior Night 3-2 to Corsairs

The Suffolk University Volleyball team (9-16) dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 decision to the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs (12-12) on Tuesday evening in non-conference action.

In their final home game of the 2011 season, the Corsairs took the Rams to the brink as they earned their 12th win of the season with a 15-8 decision in the final match tiebreaking set. Suffolk opened the game with a 25-14 victory before the visitors evened the contest with a 25-12 second set win. The Rams answered with a 26-24 victory in the third before the Corsairs swept the final two sets for the victory winning the fourth game 25-20.

Prior to the game the Rams honored seniors Melissa Griffin (Byfield, Mass.) and Tanya Fortes (Pembroke, Mass.).

Since 2005 Griffin has been the Rams career leader in kills as she added to her four-year total of 670 with seven kills on the evening last night. She also posted a team high with four service aces.

In five sets Fortes posted seven kills along with two solo blocks for the Rams.

Sophomore Maggie Hillman (North Andover, Mass.) had a season-high 19 kills in the five set match for the Rams, while junior Hannah Davis (Haverhill, Mass.) led the Rams with three blocks to go along with her three kills.

Suffolk will be back in action on Thursday evening as they travel to Milton for non-conference action with the Curry College Colonels beginning at 6:00pm.
