Volleyball Earns First Win of Season

The Suffolk University Volleyball team picked up their first win of the 2011 season with a 3-0 blanking of the Mass. Maritime Buccaneers (0-5 overall) on Thursday evening.

Junior Hannah Davis (Haverhill, Mass.) had a team-high seven kills as the Rams swept three straight sets to give Head Coach Noel Moran her first career collegiate victory.

The Rams won in impressive fashion with a 25-12 victory in set one, that was followed with a 25-11 second set and 25-8 win to close out the contest.

Sophomore Maggie Hillman (North Andover, Mass.) posted five kills along with team-highs in both services aces (8) and digs (6) for Suffolk. Senior Melissa Griffin (Byfield, Mass.) recorded seven service aces in the contest, while freshman Glamarys Sierra (Carolina, Puerto Rico) had a team-high with 15 setting assists.

Suffolk will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they open up Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. The Rams will host a tri-match at the Regan Gymnasium beginning at 12:00pm as Norwich University and Simmons College come to Cambridge Street for the three match day.
