Volleyball Wraps Up 2010 Season

The Suffolk University Volleyball team (13-19, 4-8 GNAC) concluded the 2010 season with losses to Norwich University and Emmanuel College on Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match. The losses finish the Rams with a 4-8 GNAC record leaving them just shy of a berth in the league playoffs beginning this weekend. The Rams finished 2010 winners of 13 games on the year, nearly doubling the win total from last year.

The end of the season also marks the end of the career for senior Julie Sullivan (Haverhill, Mass.), who set the career program mark with 1,821 career setting assists for the Rams. In four seasons, Sullivan averaged 5.66 assists per set. Senior Kelly Loder (Billerica, Mass.) also finished up her career for the Rams on Saturday. Loder finishes fourth all-time in program history with 407 kills and is third with 136 service aces. Sullivan trails her in fifth place with 130 aces.

The Rams opened the day up with Norwich, losing 3-1. Suffolk won the first set 25-21, before dropping the next three. Junior Melissa Griffin (Byfield, Mass.) and freshman Jacqueline Dugas (Sarasota Springs, N.Y.) each had 10 kills in the game for the Rams. Dugas also had five service aces in the four set match as well.  Loder finished the first game with nine kills and had six solo blocks for the Rams.

Emmanuel College would shut the Rams out in the second contest of the day, 3-0.  Freshman Maggie Hillman (North Andover, Mass.) and Dugas each led the team with eight kills. Hillman finished the two games with a total of 16 digs on the day for Suffolk. Sullivan had 24 assists in each match, bringing her season total to 641.
