Volleyball Tops Newbury, 3-0

Suffolk University (13-17 overall, GNAC 4-6) took a 3-0 win against Newbury College Thursday evening.

The Rams offense was led by Melissa Griffin (Byfield, MA), Maggie Hillman (North Andover, MA) and Kelly Loder (Billerica, MA) who each had 5 kills on the night. Loder also served up 2 aces while Julie Sullivan (Haverhill, MA) put up 22 assists.

Suffolk won the first set 25-20. Loder and Griffin led the offense in the first set with 2 kills each. Hillman and Jacqueline Dugas (Saratoga Springs, NY) led the defense with 7 and 6 digs in the set. Additionally, Loder had both of her solo blocks in this set.

The same followed in the second set with a win of 25-21. Hillman and Loder each had 2 kills, while Griffin and Colbey Kennedy (Old Lyme, CT) led the defense with 5 digs each.

The Rams wrapped up the match in the third set with a win of 25-20. Tanya Fortes (Pembroke, MA) led the offense with 2 kills. It was the defense that took over with Dugas (5), Hillman (4), and Hailey Atkinson (Branford, CT) (3) producing digs.

Suffolk's defense for the match was led by Hillman (13), Dugas (12), and Kennedy (10) who had a combined total of 35 digs on the night. Dugas and Sullivan also had 3 solo blocks, along with Loder who deflected 2.

The Rams will face-off against conference opponents Norwich University and Emmanuel College in a Tri-Match on Saturday at Emmanuel starting at 2:00.
