Volleyball Tops Gordon on Senior Night, 3-0

The Suffolk Rams (12-17 overall, 4-6 GNAC) hosted their last game of the 2010 season Tuesday evening against Gordon College. It was a night of special happenings as the Rams honored their Senior Captains Julie Sullivan (Haverhill, MA) and Kelly Loder (Billerica, MA). Additionally, this night marks the first time since 2005 that the team has had a 12 win record.

The Rams took an 0-3 win on the night against Gordon with the offense led by Maggie Hillman (North Andover, MA) and Loder with 7 and 6 kills. Sullivan had 14 assists on the night, while Hailey Atkinson (Branford, CT) and Loder had 4 and 3 aces.

Suffolk won the first set with a score of 25-19. Jacqueline Dugas (Saratoga Springs, NY) and Atkinson provided 2 kills in the set while Loder and Atkinson also served up 2 aces each. The Rams defense was spectacular in this set with digs coming from Melissa Griffin (Byfield, MA) (7), Atkinson (6), Dugas (4), and Hillman (4).

The second set followed the same determination as the Rams won 25-16. Hillman led the offense in the set with 6 kills, while Griffin served 2 of her total aces on the night. The defense once again took control with 11 digs coming from Hillman, and 6 and 5 coming from Atkinson and Griffin.

In their final set of the night Suffolk pressed through and won 25-18. Griffin and Loder had 4 and 3 kills offensively, while Sullivan, Atkinson, and Griffin backed up the defense with 3 digs apiece. Loder had 4 of her total solo blocks on the night during this set as well.

Hillman who had 16 digs on the night, and also Griffin and Atkinson who each had 15 digs, led the Rams defense for the match. Sullivan also dug out 6 balls of her own while Loder supplied a total of 9 blocks on their senior night.

The Rams will be back in action on Thursday night as they play in a non-conference road game at Newbury College at 7:00.
