Rams Play at Salem State Invitational

In the Tri-match invitational at Salem State University on Saturday, the Lady Rams took one of three games that afternoon.

In their first match, against Salem State, they jumped off to a great day winning 3-1.

Melissa Griffin (Junior from Byfield, MA) lead the offense with 13 kills, while Kelly Loder (Senior from Billerica, MA) had a total of 5 aces for the match. Jennifer Duston (Sophomore from Nashua, NH) lent her hand in 35 assists for the match as well.

In the first set, the Rams took control with Griffin's and Maggie Hillman's (Freshman from North Andover, MA) 5 and 4 kills. At the same time, Griffin and Jacqueline Dugas (Freshman from Saratoga Springs, NY) had 6 and 7 digs for that set, winning 25-16.

The second set continued the same with a win of 25-15. Loder led with 5 kills, while Griffin and Hillman each had 4 digs.

The Rams narrowly lost in the third set with a score of 21-25, however, were able to bounce back in the fourth set with a win of 25-16 with help from the 3 kills and digs by Dugas. Additionally, Hillman, Loder, Duston and Hailey Atkinson (Freshman from Branford, CT) each had 2 digs in the set.

The Rams were led defensively by Dugas and Hillman with 16 and 15 total digs in the match.

The remainder of the day for the Rams turned out not as promising as hoped.

In their second match, against Southern Maine, they lost with a score of 1-3. Though it was a hard fought match – with Griffin and Dugas supplying 10 and 12 kills, 29 assists from Dugas offensively, and 18 and 15 digs by Hillman and Atkinson, along with 3 blocks by Loder – they were unable to take the win.

In their third and final match the Rams could not put forth a win. Mt. Saint Mary's pulled out the stops against Suffolk's drive. Sarah Arbogorst (Freshman from Chesterfield, MO) lead the offense with 5 kills in the match. Dugas led the match with 11 total assists. It would be on defense that Hillman supplied 19 digs in an effort to help Suffolk get back in the match. However, they were unable to do this and lost the match 0-3.

Suffolk (now 7-10) will play Salem State University, Thursday evening at 7:00 at Suffolk.
