Volleyball Loses Match To Emerson

Suffolk University's women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to their cross-town Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rivals Emerson College by scores of 13-25, 7-25, and 9-25. The Rams, now 6-17 overall, 3-8 in conference, will next play a non-conference match against Roger Williams University. The Lions improved to 15-8 overall, 8-2 in conference.

While Emerson led from the beginning of the opening game, Suffolk kept it close at 4-7 thanks to errors by the Lions. But the Lions scored nine straight points behind strong serving by Allie Rosenberg (Jr., Brooklyn, CT), including three aces, opening up the lead to 4-16. But the Rams were not done yet. Behind two blocks by Kelly Loder (So., Billerica, MA) and three kills by Melissa Griffin (Fr., Byfield, MA), Suffolk was able to go on an 8-3 run until strong Emerson serving once again put the game out of reach, 13-25.

Suffolk fell behind early in the second game 2-17 behind some errors by the Rams and four kills by Emerson's Lauren Zaniboni (So., San Diego, CA). Suffolk did not give up, however, and the team matched points with the Lions 5-5 until Emerson pulled away at the end, winning the second game 7-25.

Emerson's Lauren Zaniboni (So., San Diego, CA) opened the third game with six straight service points and two aces, but the Rams answered with two quick points behind strong serving by Kelsey Armstrong-Hahn (Jr., Corvallis, OR). The Rams fought to the end with kills by Kelly Loder (So., Billerica, MA) and Melissa Griffin (Fr., Byfield, MA), and a series of digs by Patricia Dutra (Jr., Hudson, MA) that kept points alive. But Suffolk ultimately fell to the Lions 9-25.
