Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Secures Second at Tufts Snowflake Classic

SOMERVILLE, Mass. – Suffolk women's outdoor track & field claimed second at the Tufts Snowflake Classic to open its 2025 season Saturday at Dussault Track.  

The second-place performance came behind 63.5 points behind the host Tufts, who topped the 20-team field with 237 points. The blue-and-gold was the best Conference of New England (CNE) team in Somerville as it finished ahead of UNE (third), Endicott (sixth), Gordon (Eighth), Wentworth (12th) and Western New England (3). 

RAMS RECORD

  • Averie Denelle cleared a program-record 1.56 meters in the high jump.  

RAMS RUNNERS

  • Amanda Walden and JJ Conteh had top-10 finishes in the 100. Walden took the third spot on the podium with a time of 13.01, while Conteh claimed ninth with a 13.41 showing. Hilma Ortega (13.69) was in the dash as well and finished 15th. 
  • Walden also finished third in the 200 behind a time of 26.86. Kaylie Groom made the half lap around the track in 28.43, good for 10th. 
  • Kaylie Groom's 1:03.82 in the 400 was good for third. 
  • Emily Concepcion (2:32.33), Shannon Groom (2:38.51), Gina Cappello (2:43.18), Allison Martin (2:43.71) and Maria Gallant (3:12.08) all competed in the 800. 
  • Bailey Ford (5:24.17) and Katarina Ferreira (6:48.71) participated in the 1500. 

HAVE TO KNOW 'BOUT THE HURDLES

  • Catherine Madden took second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.68. Ortega placed fifth in the event with a time of 17.87.  

THROWERS THOUGHTS

  • Sharaden Caldwell (29.66) and Divinety Johnson (29.32) claimed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the discus. Gracie O'Connell (25.15) and Lydia Comprosky (22.84) competed in the discus as well. 
  • Emma Withers (35.79), Caldwell (33.09), Bailee Mallett (29.94) and O'Connell (29.92) competed in the hammer throw. Withers highlighted the group with a seventh-place performance. 
  • Olivia Nicholson's 28.28 javelin heave was good for sixth. Withers' 21.64-meter toss was good for 21st. 
  • Johnson heaved the shot put 8.40 meters.  

JUMPERS JIST

  • Denelle's cleared 1.56 meters in the high jump, good for second. Catherine Brown, meanwhile, jumped 1.46 meters to take fifth. 
  • Dootchina Dorielan (4.30), Kara Sickle (4.09) and Sasha Helfgott-Wateres (3.90) participated in the long jump. 
  • Helfgott-Waters claimed seventh in the triple jump with an 8.97-meter leap.  

RAMS RELAYS

  • Walden, Concepcion, Ortega and Conteh combined for a first-place performance in the 4x100 with a time of 50.85.

Suffolk will send Rams to the Colonial Relays this weekend, April 4-5, in Williamsburg, Virigina.
