Women’s Indoor Track & Field Competes at USATF New England Championships 

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Suffolk women's indoor track & field had one last chance to earn a spot at the upcoming 2025 New England Indoor Championships over the weekend as the Rams took their talents across the bridge to Harvard's Gordon Indoor Track for the USAATF New England Indoor Championships.  

QUALIFIERS

RAMS RECORDS

  • With her New England qualifying time of 8.06, Walden rewrote her person record in the 60. 
  • Hilma Ortega notched personal-best in the 60 (8.17) and 60 hurdles (9.80).
  • Emily Concepcion posted not only a personal record, but a Rams' record of 2:18.31 in the 800. 
  • Averie Denelle leapt to a personal-best in the high jump of 1.62.  

RAMS RUNNERS

  • Walden and Ortega assembled top-eight finishes in the 60. Walden's 8.06 was good for fifth, while Ortega slid into eighth in 8.17. Aida Bellal ran the dash in 8.88. 
  • Walden secured seventh in the 200 with a 26.66 showing. Ortega, meanwhile, made the half lap around the track in 27.50. 
  • Kaylie Groom (1:04.08) and Bellal (1:08.54) represented the Rams in the 400 and took 13th and 19th, respectively. 
  • Concepcion's time of 2:18.31 put the senior in eighth in the 400. Shannon Groom (2:34.84), Gina Cappello(2:34.84), Allison Martin (2:40.45), Jaenelle Bryant (2:56.88) and Maria Gallant (3:02.73) made two laps around the track as well. 
  • Bailey Ford (5:43.18) and Megan Dunn (5:55.56) ran the mile. 
  • Sofia Moukaddem was the runner-up in the 3000 with a 10:30.04 showing. 
  • Ortega (9.80) and Catherine Madden (9.80) finished one after another in sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 60 hurdles.  

RAMS RELAYS

  • Walden, Concepcion and the Groom sisters, Kaylie and Shannon, combined forces to win the 4x400 Relay with a 4:16.28 time.  

JUMPERS JIST

  • Dennelle was the runner-up in the high jump after she cleared 1.62 meters. Caterine Brown was three spots behind Denelle in fifth thanks to a 1.52-meter effort. 
  • Devyn Battistoni placed sixth in the pole vault with a 3.30 showing. 
  • Sasha Helfgott-Waters jumped to 4.05 meters in the long jump.

The Rams that qualified for regionals are set to compete at the Track this weekend, Feb. 28-March 1 at the New England Division III Indoor Championships.
