Women’s Indoor Track & Field Sees One Qualify for Regionals at Suffolk Relays

BOSTON - In the largest hosted event in Suffolk women's indoor track & field history, the Suffolk Relays, the Rams had one student-athlete earn her place at NCAA Division III Regionals, while three others and the Sprint Medley Relay team rewrote personal records at the Track at New Balance. 

REGIONAL RAMS

  • Amalia Dorion punched her tickets to New Englands in two events with a pair of runner-up finishes. In the 800, she clocked a 2:20.86 and ran a 5:02.62 mile. 

RAMS RECORDS

  • Dorion's performance of 2:20.86 in the 800 was program record. 
  • Hilma Ortega produced a personal record in the 60 as she sprinted to 8.38. 
  • Ainsley Dion ran a career-best 32.73 200.
  • Catherine Brown leapt to a personal-best in the high jump with a 1.53. 
  • The Sprint Medley Relay team of Amanda WaldenJJ ContehEmily Concepcion and Shannon Groom combined forces for a program-record 4:32.79.  

RAMS RELAY

  • The foursome of Walden, Conteh, Concepcion, and Shannon Groom compiled a 4:32.79 in the Sprint Medley Rely to claim sixth.  

RAMS RUNNERS

  • Suffolk saw a quarter of student-athletes sprint the 60 in Conteh (8.11), Walden (8.23), Ortega (8.38) and Catherine Madden (8.84). 
  • Concepion (27.73), Ortega (27.94) and Dion (32.73) all made half a lap around the track in the 200. 
  • Concepcion turned in a fourth-place finish in the 400 as the senior finished the full lap around the track in 1:00.77. Kaylie Groom was featured in the 29-runner field as well and clocked a 1:06.29, good for 14th.
  • Madden (10:00), Ortega (10.04) and Averie Denelle (10.75) all competed in the 60 hurdles.  

JUMPERS JIST

  • Denelle (1.53), Brown (1.53) and Evelyn Lansing (1.40) participated in the high jump. 
  • Kara Sickle (3.05), Devyn Battistoni (3.15) represented the blue-and-gold in the pole vault. 
  • Sasha Helfgott-Waters (9.07) and Dion (8.25) competed in the triple jump.  

FIELDERS FACTS

  • Divinety Johnson produced an 8.25-meter heave in the shot put. 
  • Johnson (10.38) was joined by Bailee Mallett (10.32), Gracie O'Connell (9.99) and Lydia Comprosky(8.07) in the weight throw. 

YOU'RE NEW HERE

  • Dorion ran the 800 and mile as a Ram for the first time.
