Indoor Track & Field Compete at USATF New England Indoor Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A small contingent of Suffolk indoor track & field student athletes participated at the USATF New England Indoor Championships at Harvard University's Gordon Indoor Track over the weekend. 

On the women's side, five Rams took their talents to Cambridge. A triad of Skyler Spanbauer (5:59.49), Natalie Fay (6:02.57) and Mai Linh Vankirk (6:16.62) ran the mile, with Savannah Goddeeris (11:23.61) competing in the 3000. Michelle Riley represented the Suffolk women in the shot put with a 7.92-meter toss. 

For the men, Michael Balestra had a standout showing in the weight throw. His 14.71-meter performance was good for second in the 15-player field, which also featured Rams' Frank Irizarry (10.78), Matthew Sambuceti (9.72) and Michael Power (9.72). 

Power (10.27) and Irizarry (8.73) also tried their hands in the shot put. 

Keoni Geers competed in a pair of events as well. The runner took the mile (4:55.57) and 3000 (10:25.44) course with Justin Turner (9:25.69) participating in the latter as well. 

Aiman Salih and Joseph Robinson rounded out the Rams across the bridge in the 400 and 800, respectively. Aiman took one lap around the track in 56.67 and Robinson finished his two times around the track in 2:12.06. 

The New England Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships are up next for the blue-and-gold Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 29. The women take their talents to Middlebury, Vermont and the men compete in Springfield, Massachusetts.
