Women’s Tennis Caps Off Home Slate Saturday Against JWU

BOSTON – The Suffolk women's tennis team wraps up its regular-season home schedule Saturday, Oct. 6  as it entertains Johnson & Wales in a matinee GNAC showdown. The contest is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. with a Senior Ceremony taking place prior to first serve.

LAST TIME OUT
The Suffolk women's tennis team dropped a non-league match to UMass Dartmouth Thursday night as the Corsairs downed the Rams, 6-3, at North Reading High School.

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk dipped to 4-7 overall after its setback to UMass Dartmouth Thursday night. In league play, the Rams are 2-3 after taking down St. Joseph (Conn.) Wednesday. 

Ilda Ascic has made her racquet known thus far through her rookie season as the freshman holds the best singles record at 7-4 exclusively in the second slot. Her doubles partner, senior Delaney Dunlap, has played the role as the Rams' ace and sits 4-7 on the year. The pair team up for the best doubles record with a 6-5 mark including a 3-2 league ledger.

WILDCAT WAYS
Johnson & Wales rides a three-match win streak into Saturday. The Wildcats sandwiched two conference sweeps around a 5-3 non-conference triumph to improve to 6-3 on the season and 2-1 in league outings. 

Clarie Parry has held down JWU's ace position with a 6-3 ledger. Delaney Macchirole, who split tile on courts two and three, and Gabriela Velazquez, who has seen time at No. 3 and No.6, each sport 6-3 singles records as well.

Drew Bobbey and Parry team up for the Wildcats most successful singles team with a 6-3 mark exclusively in the second slot.

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk trails the all-time series with Johnson & Wales, 7-16.
  • The Rams and Wildcats last met in the 2017 GNAC semifinals, which JWU won in sweeping fashion, 5-0.  
  • The blue-and-gold looks for its first victory over the Wildcats since a 5-3 triumph Oct. 8, 2016.
