Women’s Tennis Handles Wentworth, 8-1

NORTH READING, Mass. – The Suffolk women's tennis team found its way in the win column Thursday night as the Rams cruised past Wentworth, 8-1, at the Winchester Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENDED
Suffolk collected all three doubles points to grab a hefty lead to begin the match. The freshmen team Kendall Smith and Jordan Miller put the Rams on the board with an 8-1 decision over the Leopards team of Kirsten Gramajo and Cici Deakin on court three. Seniors Elena Cisneros Garcia and Meagan French followed that with an 8-2 victory in the second slot against Olivia DeLuca and Hannah Erickson, before the top tandem of senior Delaney Dunlap and freshman Ilda Ascic took down Ali Sollecito and Ellen Butts, 8-6.

The Rams kept their doubles momentum up as the match switched gears into singles play. Miller and French finished one in front of each other in the sixth and fifth positions, respectively, each recording golden matches. Miller swept Gramajo, while French notched her first win the season over Erickson to secure Suffolk's first victory of 2018. 

Smith continued the winning ways for the blue-and-gold with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Deakin at no. 4 and Ascic bested Butts, 7-6, in the second spot and Cisneros Garcia posted a 6-4, 6-4, win on court three over DeLuca to wrap up the points for the hosts. 

Wentworth gained its lone point of the evening at No. 1 as Dunlap fell to Sollecito, 6-3, 6-3.

  • Suffolk won its fifth straight match versus Wentworth to gain a 6-1 edge over the Leopards dating back to 2001.
  • French notched her first golden match of the season and fourth of her campaign, first since 2015.
