Regis Edges Women’s Tennis, 5-4

WESTON, Mass. – The Suffolk women's tennis team saw its two-match win streak snap Wednesday night as Regis took a 5-4 thriller away from the Rams at the Regis Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk took a 2-1 lead after doubles action with the Rams winning courts two and three. After Katasha Jarvias and Ariana McCormack bested Isabel Rathlev and Elena Cisneros Garcia, 8-1, in the first spot, Danlyn Medou and Ahilya Malhoutra put the blue and gold on the scoreboard with an 8-3 victory over Gracia Jarest and Sara Kanarkiewciz. Delaney Dunlap and Keely Hardy took a 9-8 (9-7) battle over Carly Donovan and Carly Scanlon in the second spot to give the Rams a 2-1 cushion. 

The Pride regained its advantage with two quick wins on the singles top two courts. After Rathlev fell to Jarvis, 6-1, 6-0, Dunlap dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Donovan. 

Medou leveled the playing field once again as the sophomore claimed the sixth single spot with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Sara Kanarkiewicz. 

Malhoutra gave Suffolk its first lead of the night thanks to 6-2, 6-2, win over Amy DiPace at No. 5, but the score tied once again at 4-4 as Hardy fell to McCormack, 6-2, 6-1, in the fourth position. 

It all came down to Cisneros Garcia on the third court. The junior took forced a third set with Scanlon, after falling in the first, 6-2, she won the second by a mirrored score, but could not rally in the third, falling 6-3, to let Regis claim the match, 5-4.

Suffolk is back in action tomorrow as it visits Buckingham, Browne & Nichols for a 6 p.m. showdown with Lesley.
