Women’s Tennis Steps Out of GNAC Play Thursday vs. Wentworth

BOSTON – The Suffolk women's tennis returns home Thursday, Sept. 22 when it take a break from GNAC play and entertains Wentworth at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk women's tennis team traded points with Simmons, but the GNAC powerhouse was able to pull the victory, defeating the Rams, 5-4, at the Daly Courts Tuesday night.

RUNDOWN ON THE RAMS
After trading a loss with a win to open the season, Suffolk has dropped five straight to move to 1-6 on the season. 

The Rams' top duo of Aidiana Sagyndykova and Valentina Medina continue their strong seasons as both are undefeated in singles play. Medina is 7-0, while Sagyndykova is 6-0 with the duo splitting time as Suffolk's No. 1 and No. 2. 

On the doubles courts, Medina has teamed up with three different partners, but has been the most dominate with her co-captain senior Sagyndykova (3-0). 

LOOK AT THE LEOPARDS
Similar to Suffolk, Wentworth is on a skid as the Leopards have lost three straight including a 9-0 sweep at Nichols in its latest outing. 

Caitlyn Briggs, Wentworth's ace, owns the best singles ledger at 3-5 and she has teamed up with Sam Webb for the Leopards' top tandem for a 1-7 record. Ellen Butts and Veronica Monteiro, meanwhile, boast the a team-leading 2-5 doubles mark from the third slot. 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK, AGAIN
For the second time this season and in as many weeks, Suffolk women's tennis' Valentina Medina was named GNAC Corvias Player of the Week the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Suffolk's top team of Medina and Sagyndykova will travel across the bridge to Cambridge for the ITA New England Regional Tournament. The junior and senior will compete in singles and as a pair in the doubles bracket. The regional event is hosted by MIT September 23-25.
