Women’s Tennis Defeats Salve Regina, 6-3

WINCHESTER, Mass.  – The Suffolk women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season Thursday night as the Rams downed Salve Regina, 6-3, at the Winchester Indoor Lawn Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk use the momentum of two doubles victories to take the first two singles courts thanks to Valentina Medina and Aidiana Sagyndykova, to take a 4-1 advantage. With match point set up, the Seahawaks claimed the fourth court, but Danly Medou sealed the win for the Rams with a victory in Suffolk's fifth slot. The blue-and-gold traded the final two matches for the final 6-3 score. 

SUFFOLK STANDOUTS

  • Medina continued to prove her worth for the Rams, winning both doubles and singles matches for the second straight contests and playing in both top spots. With Isabel Rathlev in doubles, the pair took down Emma Gruber and Priscilla Gaspard, 8-2. In singles, Medina only lost one point to easily cruise past Gruber, 6-0, 6-1. 
  • Sagyndykova, who played in both seconds slots for the Rams, also notched two W's on the day. The senior teamed with Elena Cisneros Garcia for an 8-5 win over Abigail Burke and Courtney Bailey, before the co-captain defeated Bailey, 6-4, 6-0, in singles. 
  • Medou kept her collegiate singles record embellished as the freshman took down Taylor Amednola, 6-0, 6-4, on court five to pick up her second win in as many matches. 
  • Meagan French rounded out Suffolk's victors with a three-set thrilling super tiebreaker (6-4, 6-7, 7-6) triumph over Sarah Kraus in the Rams' sixth position.
