BOSTON – The Suffolk women's tennis team's 2016 slate gets underway Tuesday, Sept. 6 as the Rams entertain Rhode Island at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.

RUNDOWN ON THE RAMS
Returning the top two spots in its lineup - reigning two-time GNAC Player of the Year Aidiana Sagyndykova and GNAC Rookie of the Year Valentina Medina - the Rams look to make another run at the conference championship. 

Sagyndykova was nearly perfect on both courts a year ago, posting records of 12-1 in singles and 11-2 in doubles. As Suffolk's ace, the senior was 10-2. Medina, meanwhile, did not drop a singles match in 2015, going a perfect 15-0 with four victories on court one. The junior was also nearly perfect in doubles action, going 14-1. 

A BIT ABOUT THE ANCHORMEN
Rhode Island opened its season with a 7-2 triumph over Salve Regina Saturday. The Anchormen dropped just the singles an doubles match on the sixth and third, court, respectively to record the win. 

Dayna Reilly put together a golden match in Rhode Island's top singles spot and she teamed up with Julie Reddy for an 8-2 win as the Anchorwomen's top tandem.  

OPENING ACT
For the second straight season, Suffolk will open its season at home and look for it second consecutive win on opening day after taking down Bridgewater State, 5-4, a year ago.

ON THE SIDELINES
Steve Counihan enters his 12th season at the helm of the Rams. Under his guidance, Suffolk won the program's only GNAC title in 2007, with a 14-1 overall record and a perfect 7-0 conference mark.

Suffolk has one day off before it returns to action when the Rams entertain Salve Regina Thursday, Sept. 8 at the Winchester Indoor Lawn Tennis Center. Match time is set for 5 p.m.
