Women’s Tennis Sweeps Anna Maria, 9-0

BOSTON – The Suffolk women's tennis team got back in the win column Tuesday night as the Rams blanked Anna Maria, 9-0, at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols. 

The clean sheet is Suffolk's first of the year as it improves to 6-4 overall and 2-1 against GNAC competition. Anna Maria, meanwhile, slipped to 2-7 and remains winless in conference play at 0-4. 

Valentina Medina and Abby Trigilio got the ball rolling in the second slot. The sophomore and senior partnership rebounded from their first defeat of the season with a golden match over Callie Mulcahey and Ashley Fernandes. Suffolk captured the first and third doubles courts by identical 8-1 scores. Aidiana Sagyndykova and Rebecca Eshoo bested Jessica Gautieri and Nicola Zamira at No.1, while Isabel Rathlev and Lyndsay Reese took down Marrissa Leonard and Freya Sprous at No. 3. 

The Rams did not let up in singles action as Meagan French got things going with her first golden match of her collegiate career in the sixth spot against Laura Cabral. Elena Cisneros followed suit with a 6-0, 6-1, triumph against Ashley Fernandes on the fourth court. 

Medina, the reigning Corvias ECAC Division III Women's Tennis Co-Rookie of the Month, lived up to her potential with the third singles golden match of the season as she defeated Zamira in spot two. 

Sagyndykova, the Rams' ace, followed with a 6-1, 6-1, win over Gautieri, before Eshoo defeated Mulcahy, 6-1, 6-0, on the third court. 

Jacquelyn Nakamura rounded out the action with a golden match of her own in the fifth position over Jess Palmer. 

Suffolk heads out on the road  Saturday as it travels to Johnson & Wales for a 6 p.m. match.
