Women’s Tennis Bested at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Suffolk women's tennis team opened October action this afternoon with a 7-2 setback to Springfield at the Appleton Courts.

The Pride (3-4) took advantage of playing on its home courts to pick up its third win of the year, second at home, while the Rams faltered on the road for the third time this season moving to 5-4 overall.

Suffolk got off to a quick start as the veteran partnership of Aidiana Sagyndykova and Rebecca Eshoo took down Rachel London and Stephanie Foster by a score of 8-6 on the first doubles court. Momentum did not continue to swing in the Rams favor, however, as Valentina Medina and Abby Trigilio's perfect record in the second slot came to an end. The sophomore, senior team were defeated by Meslissa Parrish and Rachel Litchfield, 8-5, before Isabel Rathlev and Lyndsay Reese fell to Nicole Piazza and Bri Borus, 8-3, at No. 3.

Springfield took a 2-1 lead into singles play and built on that as Sagyndykova suffered her first loss of 2015. The junior dropped a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) match to London on the first court. Medina on the other hand continued to keep her perfect singles mark in tact with a golden set against Foster followed by a 6-1 win the set and match in the second spot.

The Rams could not rally behind Medina's victory as they dropped matches three through six to fall to the Pride.
