Women’s Tennis Stuffs Wentworth For Third-Straight Win, 7-2

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Suffolk women's tennis team extended its win streak to three matches Thursday afternoon with a 7-2 victory over Wentworth at the Beren Tennis Center on the campus of Harvard University.

Suffolk (5-2) took a lead in the race winning two of the three doubles matches. Valentina Medina  and Abby Trigilio did not miss a beat as the sophomore and senior kept their perfect paring intact with an 8-2 victory over Wentworth's (2-7) Nicole McColgan and Ellen Butts in the second spot.

The Leopards quickly evened the Rams tally with a win of its own on the third court. Meagan French and Elena Cisneros partnered for the first time in their careers, but could not outlast Nicole Mooney and Kelsey DeGouveia, falling 8-6 on the third court.

The match turned over to the No. 1's where the Rams veteran tandem of Aidiana Sagyndykova and Rebecca Eshoo made sure to send the visitors into singles play ahead as the junior and senior took down Caitlyn Briggs and Emily Jodin, 8-5.

It did not take long for Suffolk to clinch the match in singles play as it won the first five singles matches all in straight sets to secure the victory.

Suffolk's ace Sagyndykova, who is undefeated in singles play in 2015, was the first to finish with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Briggs. On court four, Trigilio tallied a golden set over Butts before collecting a 6-1 second set for the win.

The Rams second undefeated singles player, Medina, did not falter against her Leopards competition as the reigning Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week cruised past McColgan, 6-1, 6-1, in the second slot. Eshoo followed suit on the third court with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph against Jodoin.

With the match already in the books for the Rams, Isabel Rathlev tacked on Suffolk's seventh victory of the day with a 6-4, 6-1 decision in the fourth position versus Butts.

Wentworth earned its only singles point of the match when Lyndsay Reese and Sam Webb went point-for-point. Reese battled, but it was Webb that held on for the win by identical set scores of 7-5.

Suffolk sets its sights on defending GNAC champion Simmons. The Rams and Sharks have a 12 p.m. date on Sunday, Sept. 27.
