Women’s Soccer Shutouts Worcester State, Off to Best Start in Program History

EAST BOSTON – Thaks to the combination of the game-winning goal from Avery Porter and a three-save effort by Arden Ferrari-Henry, Suffolk women's soccer bested Worcester State, 1-0, Saturday afternoon at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park

The win pushes Suffolk to 3-0-0 on the season, its best start through three games in the program's 18 varsity seasons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first frame, Suffolk's fifth corner kick of the afternoon paid off for the host. Kylie Flynn lofted a pass to the front of the net where Porter waited to head it home and put the Rams on the board at the 61:22 minute.  

The blue-and-gold controlled the pace of play from there. The Rams defense did not let the Lancers test Ferrari-Henry again as Suffolk stymied Worcester State from putting a shot on target over the remainder of the outing.  

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Ferrari-Henry finished with three saves en route to the shutout. 
  • Ella Gumienny compiled a six-save effort in the setback.  

STATISICALLY SPEAKING

  • Porter was responsible for Suffolk's lone goal. 
  • Flynn dished out the lone assist of the game. 
  • Suffolk outshot Worcester State, 16-5. 
  • The Rams had more corner kick chances as well, 6-1.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • At 3-0, Suffolk is off to its best start in program history. 
  • The Rams have logged three straight shutouts. It is the most shutouts in a row since compiling three together Sept. 21-30, 2021.
  • Suffolk met Worcester State for the first time. 
  • Porter scored her second goal of the year. 
  • Flynn logged her second assist of the year. 
  • Ferrari-Henry recorded her third shutout of the season, sixth of her collegiate career.
